Teacher: “We are going to have A.R.T. today”.
Student: “ART is funnnnn”.
Teacher: “And, we are going to draw a C.A.T.”
Student: “A CAT is fun toooo, huuuhhh?”
This little dialogue was brought to me years ago. It came into my mind again today. I contemplated it, and this is what came.
A.R.T. is a symbol of Creator/Creation. It is Creativity NOW. It is Awareness of Freedom, Whole, Complete. It is Love, Joy and Peace. It is the BEINGNESS out of which all things happen. It is the Canvas. It does not change. It does not disappear.
A. is for Acceptance: Accept all that arises, inside/outside, equally as it arises on the screen; the script is written and its written for no one.
R. is for Rest: Rest the decision to place meaning on what THIS IS. THIS is unknowable. THIS seems to appear as a real story, but that’s a meaning placed on THIS. Just look at everything, and SEE ITS meaninglessness.
T. is for Trust: Trust that all things which seem to occur, (& whatever meaning was given to them), is for the sole purpose to SEE that THIS already is meaningless and no one awakens. All is well now.
A.R.T. is Timeless. It is Limitless. It never changes. It never disappears. It is real.
C.A.T. is the drawing or the ‘making of something’. It has a temporary existence. It is a passing experience. It has an appearance. It has a beginning and an end. It is a happening. It will disappear. It is dependant on the canvas (the ART). It changes. It will end, something else will take its place. It is not real.
C. is for concepts: Concepts are thoughts. Thoughts are temporary. They are passing. They are not real.
A. is for attachments; An attachment is a belief that something is real. It is the cause of all suffering. Attachment to concepts is seeing the CAT; making the CAT real.
T. is for time: Linear time, (past / future) are concepts believed in as true, but never do they become true. This continual focus on time, makes the CAT seem real but also reminds you to fear it will not last.. When believing in the CAT, the remembrance of the ART is not seen.
“We are going to have ART today”. Art is always accessible, available. It is the canvas on which all possibilities arise. It is NOW.
“We are going to draw a CAT.” The cat is a temporary making of form. It has limits. If it seems pleasurable, you want to save it. If it seems painful, you want to avoid it, or end it. Both are not real.
Remembering that the CAT is not real, the ART of drawing a CAT is fun too….I am ART, you are ART, WE are ART.
Today, we erase the CAT, noticing it never was; and ART is seen it is already.
So awesome and beautifully written, Nina! I am sooo glad you are sharing because it seems like natural destiny. The CAT you’ve drawn with your words reminds me of the ART that we are. xox
